DANCE PATHWAY

THE COURSE objective

This bespoke course is intended as a step towards further training at one of the UK's top theatre schools. 100% of DSC graduates who auditioned for further education, successfully gained a place at one of their top choices directly out of their second year. Students have successfully gone to study at renown colleges including, Laine Theatre ArtsWilkes AcademyMasters Performing ArtsLondon Studio Centre, Performers CollegeAddict Dance AcademyThe Northern Ballet SchoolMidlands Academy of Dance and Drama (MADD) and many more incredible institutions, all with funding assistance. Other students have gone on to have fantastic Dance, Acting and Musical Theatre careers directly from their BTEC training with DSC, some graduating straight into representation with West-End agents including Russell Smith Associates and the worlds biggest commercial agent Dancers Inc.

All graduating students will have a clear knowledge and talent in dancing, singing and acting and how to be fully prepared for auditions, giving them a head start to competitors. Dancers who sing, singers who dance, actors who sing or singers who act, we provide the best training in the North-West for anyone dreaming of a career in Performing Arts. With only 20 places per year, our students receive close and intense training and no-one is overlooked. Regular meetings and tutorials will ensure our teachers and students are constantly working toward their achievements.

INDUSTRY FACULTY

 

Training under current industry performers whose stage, TV and commercial credits include: Dirty Dancing, Coronation Street, Steps, CH4 Hollyoaks, Cats The Musical, The Royal Ballet, Les Miserables, Mamma Mia 2; The Movie, Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, X Factor, Britain's Got Talent, Jessie J, Starlight Express, Cold Feet and Matilda; to name just a few. Students at DSC are receiving knowledge and teaching from the industry first hand. All of our tutors are not only highly qualified, but highly experienced performers, making training exciting, fresh and current. DSC even has a bank of tutors who work as casting directors and producers within the theatre and TV industry.

 

Throughout training, in addition to core subjects, DSC provide hours of enrichment and workshops with performers such as Ryan Clayton from Coronation Street, Denise Welch from Loose Women, Perri and Jordan from Diversity, Alyx Steele (Jessie J), Adam Garcia (Films, Broadway, West-End and Got to Dance), Billy Sawyer (Steps, Jess Glynne) Kimberley Wyatt (PCD), performers from Matilda, Thriller Live, Evita, We Will Rock You, Hamilton, SIX and more. Not only do you get chance to train harder, but Debut also provide the opportunity to perform on TV, stage and live events, which in itself is valuable training most other colleges do not provide. Students have already performed on Channel 4's 8 out of 10 Cats with Jimmy Carr, featured in an Adidas commercial and successfully received other job offers that go hand in hand with their training.

Curriculum - Dance Pathway

​

DSC has two pathways focussing on either Dance and Musical Theatre, or straight Acting. With our small year groups and large faculty we have the facilities to cater the course individually for those who class themselves as actors, dancers, singers or all rounders. Each pathway receive their core classes, with the added opportunity to join in with other classes from a different pathway, to enhance your skill base.

weekly Core and Enrichment Subjects Include:

Ballet, Jazz, Commercial, Tap, Contemporary, Lyrical, Musical Theatre Jazz, Hip Hop, Contemporary, Lyrical, Acrobatics,

 Acting for Dancers and Singing for Dancers

 

Additional Enrichment Subjects Include:

 

Voguing, Body Maintenance, College Audition Workshops, Musical Theatre, West-End Workshops, Script Writing, Radio Work, Integrated Performance, Choreography, Direction, Audition Workshops, Performance Projects and more. 

 

DSC have provided a course which will ensure you achieve your academic grades and the industry training you need to be steps ahead of the competition. With on going business management throughout your course, DSC give you the option to audition in your second year, or use the tools and knowledge provided to begin your career upon graduating. Alternatively students will also have the grades and qualifications to embark on a more academic route, with help with University applications too.

Please note that all applications must be submitted by email, not post, to info@debutstudios.uk

All applicants will be invited to an open day/audition. If you are unable to attend either of these please see the information below on what to include with your application.

​

  • Dance applicants who have not auditioned in person should submit a solo dance video no longer than 1 minute long with their application form. This can be in any style but should show technique and performance skills. 

​

  • Acting applicants who have not auditioned in person should submit a video monologue no longer than 1 minute long with their application form. This can be any genre or style but should show varied performance skills. 

​

Funding 

 

This course is 100% government funded

 

There are absolutely no course fees for our 2 year, Level 3 Extended BTEC. 

 

Some students are also eligible for government bursaries to assist with uniform and learning equipment (i.e bags, stationary etc).

Entry Requirements 

 

Academic Entry Level (all students)

 

For both courses students are required to have gained a minimum 4 G.C.S.E's grade 4 or higher, including Maths and English. 

​

Vocational Entry Level (Acting students)

​

Students must have a high level of acting skill. Students are expected to have studied acting or drama prior to audition and have a passion for the performing arts industry. 

 

Vocational Entry Level (Dance & Musical Theatre students)

​

Students must have a high level of performing arts skills and have experience in dance and/or musical theatre which could include acting and/or singing, preferably with a high skill set in core genres such as Ballet and Jazz. Students are expected to have studied dance in any genre prior to audition.

 

Students are streamed based on their experience in certain subjects so knowledge in all areas is not essential, just the passion to improve skills in all areas.
