Dance student Takiyah Walker will be following in the footsteps of Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, Christina Aguilera, Paula Abdul, Kylie Minogue and Nicole Scherzinger when she touches down in Los Angeles and Copenhagen from Stockport.

The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts student has been accepted into the prestigious International Dance Academy - founded by choreographer to the stars Sonny Fredie Pederson - following glowing reports from Stockport College partners Debut Academy of Performing Arts.

She joins a glittering cast of students headed for great things with Nia Waul destined for Midlands Academy of Dance and Drama (MADD) and Georgia Reel accepted into Addict Dance Academy, which touts teaching from the likes of Rita Ora, Cheryl Cole, Mariah Carey and Nick Jonas.

Takiyah said: “I have enjoyed my training at Debut College. It was a lot different to what I experienced at my previous college, but it made me a better versatile dancer and a lot more confident in my dancing, acting and singing. The support was great from all the teachers. They pushed me to my full potential every lesson and when it came to auditioning they were a great help. My best memory at Debut was the thriller and vogue workshop we did. They were two contrasting styles, but both were amazing and gave me a feel for what it would be like working in the industry.”

Nia added: “I was nervous starting second year with Debut as I had a lot to work on but all my tutors were so welcoming and they helped me with my confidence as well as my technique.”

Georgia said: “Debut made sure I got to where I wanted to be, especially in time for my auditions. The tutors pushed me to where I needed to be and, because of this, I was offered a place at my first choice university.”

Debut Director Carolann Bruce said: “Training in LA is incredible and this will give Takiyah a great start in her career. We support all our students with their applications, audition prep and guide them throughout the process of applying and auditioning to these colleges. We’re delighted with our students’ progress.”

Debut provides high-quality professional industry training with an extensive enrichment programme consisting of an extra 15-20 hours of training each week. Students are taught how to prepare for auditions throughout their years of study at Debut, supported by insights from visiting West End performers. Learners go on to higher education and work on cruise ships, TV, tours and on theatre shows.
